Lithuanian students’ diary
Portugal
February 2019
Day 1
Early in the morning we started our journey to Portugal.
Our mood was wonderful as we were travelling to a big adventure.
At first we flew to Frankfurt and from this town to Porto.
When we were landing to the porto airport , we couldn’t stop looking
at the ocean that was under us. A smiling man met us and took us
to school, where we met our families and teacher Rosaria. While we
were going to the school, we felt a little bit worried , but when
we saw our friendly families we relaxed and understood that
everything was going to be ok. During the first evening, we
visited our host families relatives and it was interesting
to see how people live, how they welcome guests and
how warm were they. One difference that we all noticed was,
that Portuguese families don’t take off their shoes at home.
Day 2
The second day started visiting host school, it was nice to see girls welcoming
with their dance. We were surprised that students don’t wear uniforms.
We had an excursion at school, it was strange to see that students and
teachers wear coats inside. In Lithuania it is forbidden to wear them.
It was interesting to see the classrooms, especially to participate in
chemistry lesson, the teacher was amazing;) We were talking about
differences from our school. Then we saw a Portugese lesson, unfortunately
we didn’t understand anything, anyway it was nice to listen to Portuguese language.
After lunch at school we walked to the factories. The best thing there
was making jokes with new friends, and wandering about oranges on the trees on
the way to the factories.
Evening was very good with families, as the food in Portugal really good,
especially sandwich with ham and eggs.
Day 3
We spent a day in the town, walking in the nice streets and enjoying the sun.
WE had a workshop with clay. It was really interesting to make pots ourselves and
to know the history of them. It was the first time for everyone. The best part was
eating fast food with a good company outside.
The other part of the day we spent with a fantastic guide, who told and showed
Guimarães. It was also really nice to hear that his son visited Lithuania and liked
our country very much.
We took a lot of photos and listened to interesting stories. We visited a castle, too.
Day 4
On this day we went to Porto by bus. On the way we stopped in Hydroponic farm.
We saw how disabled people grow vegetables. In Porto we took a boat tour through
the bridges over the river. Finally, we visited Porto Vineyard , found out its history
and got a taste of grape juice. Porto is a fantastic city, we were astonished by its
architecture.Evening was spent with new friends eating out.
Day 5
On the last day we had sports activities and games in the school's gym.
We played basketball, table tennis, badminton and tried archery. Archery
was really exciting for me because it was my first time using a bow.
After that we visited a mill where we ate the cake and said goodbyes to
After that we visited a mill where we ate the cake and said goodbyes to
our new friends.
Also it was interesting to visit an old mill and to see how Portuguese
baked bread in the past. It was also fantastic to taste traditional
Portuguese soup with green vegetables that we saw everywhere around,
but didn’t know its name or even ever tried its taste.
It was our first time to taste bread with fish and meat, that was made
in the mill.
All in all, it was unforgettable farewell party for students and teachers.
Day 6
It was a travelling day home.
